Case Study: William Perkin C of E High School

4 Lane Cricket Coaching and Practice Facility

William Perkin C of E High School, Greenford, has science and languages as it’s specialisms and enjoys high academic standards. A disciplined study culture is complemented by curiosity and creativity which are seen as central to the development of a student’s experience.

Sport is an important element of school life and cricket is one of the main curriculum sports. William Perkin looks to provide the opportunity for the children to benefit from a superior level of sports provision which also embraces an extended programme of after school clubs.

Having previously built a highly successful 7420m2 artificial sports pitch for the school S&C Slatter was a ‘natural’ choice as provider for this further sports asset.

The Notts Sport NottsBase® D System was selected by S&C Slatter’s specialist cricket team for the new 4 lane coaching and practice facility. The 34m x 16.64m facility has a NottsGrass Ultra non-turf playing surface over the whole area and 3m high 868 twin bar heavy duty rigid panel weld mesh fencing around its perimeter. Timber kickboards are installed along the bottom of the panels to provide additional protection.

A retractable netting system creates the four 4m high x 21.96m practice lanes within a cage structure. Behind the bowlers white screening on the rear fence line creates an effective sightscreen.

The cricket practice facility delivered expertly by S&C Slatter is the final piece in our development of a West London Hub for state school cricket. This facility will be used by primary and secondary school children as well as local clubs and Middlesex Women’s age groups. The facility opens up coaching opportunities for groups of young people designated to foster a life-long love of the game. We are blessed by our partnership with the ECB and Middlesex CCC who supported the project and contributed significant funding to support the generous contribution by the WP School Fund.”
